This paper analyses the role of the Human Resource Department (HRD) in the implementation of a business strategy. It provides key areas of focus that enable a systematic, coherent, and deliberate intervention that is aimed at achieving the strategic objectives and outcomes of the strategic plan. The paper focuses on the Government Employee Medical Scheme (GEMS), which is the second largest healthcare company in South Africa.
